Cleaning for short term rentals is supremely important – it is the best way to create an inviting atmosphere in a vacation home and generate consistently positive guest experiences. That’s why the bar must be set very high for those who clean homes after a guest stay as well as for periodic deep cleans. Beyond the initial first impression, a clean short-term rental provides a sense of comfort and well-being, allowing guests to relax and fully enjoy their stay.


But what exactly goes into short-term rental cleaning? There’s more involved than just tidying up and changing the linens. A thorough cleaning regimen includes consistent tasks performed with high attention to detail. Each cleaner is required to complete these checklists after every guest turn over. 


 


Kitchen



  • Clean and unload dishwasher

  • Clean stove top (around burners), wipe out debris on the oven interior and door and range hood

  • Clean interior (remove food) and exterior of refrigerator(stainless steel cleaner as needed)

  • Clean surfaces-countertops (behind counter appliances), backsplash, cabinets as needed

  • Clean interior and exterior of all counter appliances-toaster, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot

  • Clean and sanitize sink and faucet

  • Spot clean any stools or chairs/cushions

  • Sweep and mop all floors, including corners/edges, under furniture

  • Empty, clean trash can and wall/floor around can, add a new trash bag

  • Amenities added (dish soap, dishwasher pods, sponge, paper towels, 2 kitchen towels)


 


Living Areas



  • Wipe or sweep couches/chairs and under cushions as needed

  • Spot clean throw pillows as needed

  • Sweep and mop all floors, including corners/edges, under furniture as needed

  • Dust all surfaces, lamps, bulbs, electronics, tables, window sills,decorative items

  • Dust ceiling fan blades/bulbs

  • Clean all patio doors and interior windows as needed


 


Dining Room



  • Wipe down chairs/stools/spot clean cushions as needed

  • Spot clean or replace placemats

  • Clean and dust off table, furniture surfaces and decorative items

  • Dust all lamps, chandelier and ceiling fan blades and all bulbs

  • Sweep and mop all floors, including corners/edges, under furniture


 


Bar Area



  • Clean off surfaces, counters

  • Clean interior/exterior of refrigerator and beverage cooler

  • Clean and sanitize sink and faucet


 


Bedrooms



  • Wipe or dust off furniture/lamps/ceiling fan/tv/decorative items

  • Spot clean decorative pillows as needed

  • Clean or replace a stained quilt/pillow shams

  • Sweep and mop all floors, including corners/edges, under beds

  • Sweep out closet

  • Make beds, nicely folded unstained towels on each bed, one set per person


 


Bathrooms



  • Clean and sanitize shower/tub surround/tile/grout with bleach

  • Clean bath tub/shower spigot/sprayer

  • Clean shower doors or shower curtain, check liner for mold

  • Clean tub exterior and interior free of mildew/hair in drain

  • Scrub and sanitize toilet interior and exterior

  • Clean and sanitize sink/faucet

  • Clean mirror and dust light fixture/bulbs as needed

  • Wipe vanity as needed

  • Clean and wipe fixtures as needed

  • Place new trash bag in clean trash can

  • Place amenities out- 1 unstained towel set, 1 unstained bath mat, hand soap, shower gel, 1 new roll of TP on holder, trash bag in trash can


 


Laundry



  • Clean off top of washer and dryer and counter surfaces

  • Clean out lint from dryer vent


 


General House



  • Sweep and mop all floors/clean rugs every time

  • Dust windowsills

  • Dust ceiling fans/light fixtures

  • Dust/sweep all floor, ceiling, A/C vents as needed

  • Front door and all patio doors glass cleaned, interior and exterior
