Forrest Gump (1994)

The beloved Academy Award-winning classic starring Tom Hanks made great use of Beaufort’s scenic beauty. Many of the Vietnam War scenes were filmed on Fripp Island and Hunting Island, while the iconic running scenes took place along Beaufort’s rural roads. The University of South Carolina-Beaufort campus and the historic Woods Memorial Bridge also made appearances.

The Great Santini (1979)

Starring Demi Moore, this military drama filmed key scenes on Parris Island, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

Forces of Nature (1999)

This romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck features beautiful shots of Beaufort’s coastal landscapes.

Rules of Engagement (2000)

Another film starring Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson, this military courtroom drama filmed at Parris Island and in downtown Beaufort.

The Prince of Tides (1991) 

Based on Pat Conroy’s novel, this film starring Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte was partially shot in Beaufort and the surrounding Lowcountry, capturing the area’s natural beauty.
